PORT ST. LUCIE — After receiving $70,000 in public aid, the Port St. Lucie Historical Society is looking to the private sector to produce a docudrama for the city’s 50th anniversary.
Richard McAfoos, the society’s chair, spoke to local business leaders and elected officials at the monthly lunch for the Economic Development Council of St. Lucie County. McAfoos said he sought an additional $60,000 to help underwrite the project after receiving $50,000 from the city of Port St. Lucie and $20,000 from St. Lucie County. McAfoos said he hopes to raise the money as soon as possible.
“We’re very gratified with the public support,” McAfoos said.
The city will celebrate its 50th anniversary on April 27, 2011. McAfoos said the video would be used as a marketing tool for the community to promote development in tourism. The society is working with Treasure Coast Films Inc.
“We’re extremely hopeful,” McAfoos said.
